No matter who you are or what condition you’re in there is always room for improvement. If you don’t know how to improve yourself further it might be time to start some new helpfull habits. Many of the worlds most successful people have great habits that they follow daily to help them stay on the right path. For example Maria Molland Selby, CEO of THINX Inc. ( underwear brand ) uses her free time on Sundays to plan out her whole week before hand. This habit helps Maria achieve her goals and stay productive throughout the week since she is always prepared. Mark Bell founder of Sling Shot uses multiple habits including taking daily walks to clear his mind and satisfy his hunger, and incorporating interment fasting to help him get into ketosis and burn more body fat which helps him since he is the founder and owner of a large fitness brand. We could go on for pages and pages about how many successful people insert good habits in their schedule but the main purpose of why these people have good habits is because they know it helps with productivity and success. Most people spend around 2 hours a day on their phone or watching TV wasting countless hours doing nothing but sitting down, there is nothing wrong with posting / looking on social media or watching TV every day but 2 hours seems a little excessive. By dialing these 2 hours back to just 30 minutes gives you an extra 1 1/2 hours of free time a day, and this is enough to incorporate some productive habits. You could come up with your own habits to fit your personal goals but here are a few good places to start:
1: Read A Book
Reading a book during your free time not only takes you away from the phone and TV but it helps you stay sharp and knowledgeable. Don’t reach for the boring textbooks if that isn’t your thing, instead reach for something you want to learn more about, whether that may be dieting, gardening, history, or even fictional story. Pick something you want to read and you will be wanting to come back and read more. Your brain is just like a muscle, you can exercise it and obtain noticeable gains.
Instead of sitting around on the couch and not doing anything while watching TV or on your phone get up and start cleaning the house. Turn on a movie or some music and start rearranging some things, wipe stuff down, or get in the nitty gritty spots and deep clean the whole house while still enjoying TV or music. Cleaning will keep you away from wasting time and keep your life more organized which might relive some stress and anxiety, not to mention getting up and cleaning might burn some extra calories as well.
3: Wake Up Early
If you’re getting up 30 minutes before you need to be at work or school you should dial your alarm back a bit. Get up 1 or 2 or even 3 hours before you need to start getting ready for the day to ensure when you finally get to work or school you’re already wide awake and ready to tackle the day. You could use this time in the morning to do yoga, read, exercise, or even cook up lunch and dinner for later.
4: Go To Bed Early
This habit goes hand and hand with number 3 ( wake up early ) if you wake up early you’ll be tired earlier in the evening. If your tired at 7:30 just go to bed, getting 8-9 hours of sleep is extremely important for hormone production and appetite control. Ever wonder why you’re hungry at 12:00 AM when you stay up watching TV? That’s because there are certain hormones being released when you stay up too late and this whole complex situation can lead to very unhealthy habits. Start getting enough sleep and you’ll start to see fantastic life changes quickly.
5: Plan For Tomorrow
Before you lay down for bed at night run through your head what you need to do tomorrow and establish a game plan. Pre set the coffee maker, box up your lunch, prepare your breakfast, or lay your clothes out. When you wake up all dizzy and confused, as most people do from lack of sleep, you won’t have to think about what you’re wearing or what you’re doing because that will already be established. Having a strategy for your day will help you achieve daily goals easier than ever before. You should start every day with confidence.
Conclusion: If you incorporate some good daily habits you will most certainly see changes. Thomas Jefferson once said ” If you want something you have never had, you must be willing to do something you have never done “. The only thing that separates success from failure is consistency, if you try a good habit for one week and then stop you will never see any results from it. Use these habits and stick to them and you will see more success.
